YACOLT, Wash. — Three men are recovering after triggering, then surviving an avalanche during a snowmobiling trip on Mount St. Helens, Feb. 17.
Members of the all-volunteer Volcano Rescue Team based in Yacolt responded after one of three snowmobilers called 911. Two of his friends had just ridden off a snow cliff and into a 100-foot canyon known as Shoestring Gully, triggering an avalanche.
